Naxals Release Passengers on Train

TNN

New Delhi, Apr 22: The hostage crisis on board a train at Latehar in Jharkhand has ended with the Naxalites releasing the passengers. All the passengers are Maoists execute several attacks across Jharkhand and Bihar ahead of the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on Thursday.
believed to be safe. Negotiations are on with the Naxalites on telephone.

The train will now go to Daltonganj railway station in Palamau.

Early on Wednesday, Naxalites took a passenger train with 700 people on board, hostage, striking yet again ahead of the second phase of Lok Sabha polls.

The train was going from Barkakana in Jharkhand to Mugalsarai in UP when it was hijacked at around 7-7.30am near Hehegarha railway station in Jharkhand's Latehar district.

Unconfirmed reports claim there were around 200 Naxals who boarded the Gomo-Mogulsarai BDM passenger train.

3-4 helicopters and Railway Protection Force were pressed into action to control the situation. Additional forces were also rushed to the spot.

The train, with nine coaches, "is packed to capacity. Each coach has a capacity of 70 to 80 passengers and people were even standing on the footboards of the coaches," Railway PRO in Dhanbad, Amerendra Das said, indicating that there were nearly 700 passengers in the train.

"As per our information, all the passengers are safe and unharmed," he said.

There have been several attacks across Jharkhand and Bihar today after Naxalites called for a 24-hour bandh which started at midnight to boycott polls in the two states.

Earlier on Wednesday, suspected Naxalites killed a truck driver and set ablaze nine trucks in Bihar's Gaya district and bombed a block office in Aurangabad district, police said. ( Watch )

Over 100 armed Maoists attacked trucks on the busy Grand Trunk Road near Barachatti in Gaya, about 100 km from here, at around 12.30am. They forcibly stopped the trucks at gun point and torched nine of the vehicles.

A truck driver, Lakshman Yadav, was shot dead while trying to escape with his truck.

A group of armed Maoists also bombed the Dev block development office in Aurangabad district, which is about 50 km from Gaya.

"They used explosives. The building was badly damaged," said Gaya Superintendent of Police M.R. Naik.

"We have received information about violence by Maoists in Gaya and Aurangabad districts. Security reinforcements have been sent there," said Bihar police chief D N Gautam.

The Delhi-Ranchi Rajdhani Express earlier today had a narrow escape when Naxalites blasted the railway track at Uttari in Palamau district after which the train was diverted.

On April 15 nine people, including security personnel, were killed in a landmine blast. In retaliation, security men killed five people suspected to be Naxalites. Naxalites however claim the people killed were villagers and are demanding compensation. They also want the security personnel involved in the attack to be arrested.

At least 16 people were killed in Naxalite violence during the first phase of Lok Sabha polls on April 16.

The stenght of central govt. can be surely judged by the way it handles national & internal security. With UPA in centre, a good sum of terrorist attacks have taken place in many parts of country, & the worst was in Mumbai. Naxalist have gone even to the extend of hijacking the Train. Anyway Railway Minister is himself hijacked by Fourth front, & UPA has been mute spectator. Regarding security matter, UPA can be termed hopEless.

Dear Mr. Nagesh Nayak, you say, “IT IS NOT THE OPPOSITION IS CRYING FOUL”. What are you proud of? UPA has worked hard and led the country much better than the BJP led government. Instead of joining hands with the government and fighting against the terrorism, you only know to sit there and pass rude remarks. Its hightime you stop blaming and start working as an Indian. All the best.

Dear Mr. Nagesh Nayak, I quote your words “IT IS NOT THE OPPOSITION IS CRYING FOUL” Where are you in India, south Africa or in Bangaladesh? Unquote. You and your bjp party are not crying foul for infiltration from Bangladesh? Are you serious or joking? The left are winning or losing elections which is a democratic process and they shared power with congress on a common minimum program similar to NDA having common minimum program.

The bjp through out this and former elections crying foul against Bangladeshi infiltrators and spoken nothing about infiltrations about other nationalities. Your comments have no meaning at all and without facts. Provide facts and read the facts. Read the comments from daijiworld Sonia Begins Poll Campaign in Karnataka, Targets BJP You and bjp are welcome in Congress unless shun violent rhetoric, be secular and vote Congress. Nagesh Mamu, do you need the NSG to fight naxalites??. what a joke. NSG for naxalites and what is the police for?. To serve the BJP masters, right? Looks like you have gone completely blind sitting in Bangalore. Please visit Malnad areas and see how successful your BJP has been in fighting naxals. I was there in January, therefore i know how the people there are living in fear.In case you do not know, NSG is an anti terrorist force, and Mr Chidambaram has denied that he was against setting up a hub in Bangalore.

It is your chief minister and home minister who found no time to meet him to discuss the security issues. They have been busy in operation kamala, in trying to wean out turncoats and opportunists from other parties, and therefore they did not find time to discuss security. So please stop blaming others for your shortcommings Nagesh Mamu.

Mr. Nagesh Nayak, Remember naxalite problem Existed because of Police Harassment. These are the people who have been harassed, Tortured and beaten by Police. Nobody is naxalite by birth. Police has always been doing injustice to common people right from the past. Take for ex: Mangalore Police, who has been doing injustice to minorities.

Now Please stop commenting against the congress Government. Even under the BJP government, Police are doing more injustice. Nothing more can be expected from them nor from you Who just starts blaming the congress government and supporting the BJP government.

Nagesh mama you have a habit of talking before thinking. You have a BJP government in Karnataka now, and over the past 9 months the naxalite activities have increased in coastal and Malnad areas of Karnataka. Could you tell me what your chief minister and home minister have done to curb this menace. Also my friend the states of Chattisgarh, Bihar, MP and Orissa are ruled by BJP or its allies, and the naxalites are growing in these states. Andhra Pradesh which for your information is ruled by the Congress is the only state which has been successful in controlling the naxalite menace by forming the elite grey hounds. Could you answer me why it is so, please Nagesh Mamu?

Dear Nagesh, You are the one who blame UPA for any reason. People like you are not at all counted in a educated society. You should know to comment in a creative way so that it shows some truth and can be helped to get a solution. Only by blaming UPA, terrorism won''t be solved. You should know very well that NDA too could not to anything when there were attacks. But we can''t deny that Mr. Vajapeyi was trying his best. Have mercy on those hostages rather than blaming the authorities. Think yourself or your dear ones in the train, you would have begged with the same authorities whom you blame now to make you free first. Think smart and act accordingly.

Nagesh Naik is more worried about IPL being held abroad. He is least bothered about the importance of elections at the same time wails about UPA establishing a situation of Naxals'' attack. The HM clarified that IPL is a businiess entity which is not nation''s primary security concern as compared with the elections. Common Nagesh Nayak, set a goal. If you succeed in uprooting UPA next year you can arrange IPL at your home ! Nothing hindering - no elections and you may have eradicated naxals already by IPL season ??

Democracy is in danger from Maoists/Naxals who are freely infiltrated from Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet, Myanmar and LTTE from Sri Lanka without visas and heavily involved in terrorism against the citizens of India. The opposition is crying foul only about Bangladesh. See the havoc created by infiltrators on a daily basis.
