Mangalore, May 12: The students staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner's office here on Monday May 11, against the murder attempt on Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishat (ABVP) leader Suvrutraj Shetty on Sunday. They raised slogans against the anti-national elements, and urged the administration to arrest the culprits involved immediately.

The students alleged that a few organizations are attempting to flare up communal passions through such acts. The leader was stabbed while talking to a friend by the roadside. ABVP condemns the incident, they said.

ABVP leaders Harish Poonja, Srinidhi Hegde, Veerendra Siddakatte, Santosh Reddy and ABVP city unit secretary Varun Chowta addressed the protesters. The protesters later met the deputy commissioner and handed over a petition to him.

The BJP and Bajrang Dal too have come out with statements, condemning the incident and demanding for the arrest of the persons involved with the incident.
