Mangalore: ‘Clear Confusion over Airport Parking Fee’

DHNS

Mangalore, May 13: The Dakshina Kannada District Youth Congress Committee has filed a petition to the Director of Mangalore Airport seeking necessary action against the unconstitutional activities being carried out by the contractor of the parking area in the airport.

According to the petition, the Committee has alleged that the contractor in charge of management of parking lot is indulged in illegal activities in collecting fees from vehicles entering the airport premises. There are no boards marking the paid and non-paid parking spaces resulting in a confusion among the drivers. Even vehicles that just come in and drop or pick the passengers without parking are forced to pay the parking fee. The staff authorised to collect the fee do not display their name plates. They put a barricade across the main approach road of the airport and create a temporary traffic jam so that they can collect the fee from every vehicle, whether it is parking or not. They also misbehave with the drivers and owners of the vehicles if they question about the fee, the petition stated.

Accordingly, the Committee has urged the Airport Authority to take action to remove the obstruction on the main approach road and demarcate the paid and non paid parking areas using boards. The rules and regulations of parking should be displayed along with details of parking tariff at the arrival gate. The staff should wear name plates on their uniform and also should be trained to behave properly with the drivers and owners of vehicles, they added.

Why doesnt the youth congress approach their leaders in Delhi? By submitting a memorandum to the director, do they want to show that they are doing something for the society. Im surprised there are no photos attached to this article.

Citizens awake and seek your rights. Timely move by Youth Congress. One can visit the cafe near the arrival bldg and see their charges. When I sought a bill and threatened to report to the Airport Mgr, the coffee bill came down to one third of original charge.

I have experienced this myself when I had gone to my relatives to the airport. The people stand on the way and do not let you go inside without paying the parking fees even if you tell them that you are just going to the passengers and leave immediately. This leads to unnecessary arguments and at the end you lose and they make you return from the same gate you entered. This has to stoped immediately and make clear cut rules.
