Udupi: Concreting of Kavi Muddana Road to be Completed in 40 Days

The Hindu

Udupi, May 13: The Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) has decided to complete the concreting of Kavi Muddana Road on which its office is located. Only a portion of the sides of the divider on this road had been concreted about seven years ago.

President of Udupi CMC Dinakar Shetty said on Sunday that the concreting of the remaining portion of the road would be completed in 40 days.

Mr. Shetty told The Hindu that both sides of the Kavi Muddana Road would be concreted. At present, the asphalted portion of the road on the Mahatma Gandhi Primary School’s side was being scrubbed, he said. After completing the work on the Mahatma Gandhi School side, the work of laying the concrete bed on the CMC office side would be taken up.

Concreting was being restricted to one side of the road to facilitate movement of traffic on the other side of the road.

As regards the completion of the Kalsank bridge, Mr. Shetty said the construction of the remaining portion of the bridge on the widened Bannanje-Kadiyali Road might also take about 40 days.

Clogging

Following the rain on May 8, some of the roads in Udupi were flooded, and there was clogging of water in some places owing to the digging of roads for concreting and other purposes. The Geetanjali Cinema Road was the worst affected. The CMC had urged the Public Works Department (PWD), which had been entrusted with the widening of Bannanje-Kadiyali Road and construction of Kalsank bridge, to clear the drains near the Geetanjali Cinema Road. But it had not been done.
