Puttur: Event to Create Awareness on Traditional Bisu Celebrations held

Puttur, May 13: The Bisu celebrations were held at Padala Sri Subrahmanya Temple auditorium of Uppinangady recently, in a traditional way.

The event was jointly organized by Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project and self-help groups.

Speaking after inaugurating the event, Dhanyakumar Rai Biliyooruguttu said that the people have forgotten the celebration of Bisu festival in the din of modern life style. Tulu Academy has been trying to revive and make the people conversant with the Tulunadu traditions and impress upon the youths, the need to observe and celebrate traditional occasions, he added.
 
Presiding over the function, Dr Paltady Ramakrishna Achar, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy president, said that the people of Tulunadu must safeguard and conserve its culture. Greeting the elders and beseeching their blessings on the occasion Bisu in itself is tantamount to the respect given to the Tulu culture, he felt.

Yadupati Gowda, Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy member, delivered a lecture on the occasion.

Dr Niranjan Rai, of Ubar Koodukatt, welcomed the gathering.

Dr Rajaram K B, Ubar Koodukatt president, Nadusar Jayaram Bhat, Padala Sri Subrahmanya Temple managing trustee and Prashanth Kumar Rai, Uppinangady JCI president were present on the occasion.
