Mangalore: Nurses Day Celebration at K S Hegde Hospital

Mangalore, May 14: Justice K S Hegde Hospital (KSHEMA), Derlakatte near here, celebrated Nurses Day on Tuesday May 12, to pay tributes to the founder of nursing, Florence Nightingale, also known as 'the lady with the lamp'.

Vice dean of KSHEMA Prof (Dr) Satish Bhandary was the chief guest of the function. Prof (Dr) B Jayaprakash Shetty, medical superintendent of the hospital, presided.



Lt Col N G Santha Kumari (Retd), senior nursing superintendent of the Hospital, addressed the nurses on this occasion, after the lamp was lit by the dignitaries.  The Sr nursing superintendent also administered oath to the nurses, through which all the nurses re-dedicated themselves to the profession.

Dr Satish Bhandary highlighted the theme for the Nurses Day 2009, 'Delivering quality serving communities - nurses leading care innovations' and emphasized on the need for the participation of nurses working in clinical field, to undertake research studies like nurse education.

Dr B Jayaprakash Shetty hailed nursing to be the noblest profession in the world and asked the nurses to be a little more patient-oriented and humane in their approach through which they can provide solace to the ailing patients.

With effect from May 12, the nurses of KSHEMA underwent a change in the pattern of their uniform, from the traditional frocks, to pants and shirt for convenience.
