Bangalore, May 16: The High Court on Friday May 15, issued interim stay order against the notification issued by the government, issued in tune with the rotation-based reservation for the posts of the president and vice president of the zilla panchayats. The stay was issued by the vacation bench headed by Justice A N Venugopal Gowda.
However, the stay does not apply to Kolar and Chickballapur zilla panchayats, where the election process has been completed.
The petition preferred by Tumkur zilla panchayat member K H Krishna Reddy pointed out that the reservation process, which should be based on rotation, is fraught with mistakes as in several cases, the reservation criteria has become repetitive. The interim stay will be in operation till the 25th of this month.
Reacting to the stay order, leader of the opposition in the legislative council V S Ugrappa said the order is a slap across the face of the government, which was trying to bid adieu to the spirit of decentralization. The minister in charge of the department and the Chief Minister should own responsibility for the lapse and seek open apology of the people of the state, he demanded.
