Mangalore: Konkani Academy Book Awards Function at Karwar on May 23

Mangalore, May 16:  Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy will be organizing a ceremony on Saturday May 23 at the district theatre (Maladevi Maidan) Karwar, at 4.00 pm on Saturday May 23, for conferring its honorary and book awards - 2008.

Academy president Kundapur Narayan Kharvi will preside over the function. Sri Baveshananda Swamiji of Karwar Ramakrishnashram will be the honorary guest. Ministers Vishweshar Hegde Kageri and Anand Asnotikar will be the chief guests. Bangalore Akashwani director Dr Chetankumar Naik, Konkani folk arts researcher from Goa Dr Jayanti Naik, Karwar municipal president Ganapati Ulvekar and Karwar Rotary president George Fernandes will participate as guests.

The Academy said, J B Moraes will be bestowed with the literary honorary award, Vasudev Naik will be conferred with the folklore award while Basti Vasudev Shenoy will be given the award for his organizational skills. The book awards will be given to Paul Moraes for his study work, 'Mogrem Karan' while Edward Serrao will get the award for his collection of short stories titled 'Mogacho Ghat'.

Cultural programmes to be held on the occasion will include Daldi folk dance by Yakub Ahmed and group from Shirur, Siddi Naach by Bhujang Siddi and troupe, Yellapur as well as classical music by Vilas Revankar and troupe, Kadwad.

A special painting exhibition by national/international artist B Wilson, Karwar, sculpting, painting and portrait exhibition of Rama Bandekar, Karwar, an internationally renowned artist and Rangoli exhibition by award-winning artist Manoj Saliskar will be arranged in the premises of the theatre during the programme.
