Kundapur, May 18: Home minister Dr V S Acharya along with wife Shanta Acharya and former chairman of the Third finance Commission A G Kodgi offered Puja at Anegudde Sri Siddivinayaka Temple in the taluk on the evening of Sunday May 17.
On his arrival, the minister was given a traditional reception by the temple managing trustee K Sooryanarayana Upadhyaya. The minister later paid obeisance at Anegudde Soorayanarayana temple too. Kundapur deputy superintendent of police C K Shashidhar and sub inspector Satish Kumar were present.
Acharya said, his visit was aimed at relaxing the mind, as he had been under pressure with election-related work since the last several days. He expressed happiness at the fact that the people of all the four constituencies, that is, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi-Chickmagalur, Kanara and Shimoga, of which he was given the charge by the party, have elected candidates belonging to his party. He thanked the people and expressed the confidence that the elected candidates will work for the development of their respective constituencies.
Acharya also was more than happy about the high voter turn out in naxal-affected regions of the districts, saying that the people have decisively favoured the pro-democratic and pro-development approaches. He appreciated the police department, home guards and district administrations for the handling of law and order situation during the election. He promised that vacant posts in the police department will be filled with eligible candidates soon without giving scope for irregularities.
