Mangalore, May 20: Cloudy weather and intermittent rains in several parts of the twin-districts continued during most parts of Tuesday December 19. Almost all the places in the two districts received good rains on the intervening night between Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing down temperature, causing losses and affecting traffic.

Rain was particularly heavy in Sullia, Puttur and Beltangady taluks of Dakshina Kannada district on Tuesday.  Power supply, telephone connection and mobile connectivity were disturbed in Sullia taluk because of the thunder, lightning and speeding winds that accompanied rains.

Dharmastala and Kokkada in Beltangady taluk too reported heavy rains. Bantwal taluk and Moodbidri regions experienced showers. The city too got rains on Tuesday night.

A person named Eshwara Linga (36) from Bettodi in Aittoor gram panchayat near Kadaba  was admitted to Kadaba government hospital after getting injured due to the lightning. His house, cattle shed, power supply cables and electronic equipments too were damaged.

A huge mango tree got uprooted across the Kadaba-Subrahmanya main road near Atoor, bringing the traffic to standstill for over an hour. Several electric poles got snapped, severing power supply to villages.

Udupi district too got rains. Traffic on national highway 48 between Sakleshpur and Bangalore was affected as heavy rain started pouring on the stretch between Sakleshpur and Bangalore since the afternoon. Several places on the route experienced hail storms. Bangalore also got good rains on Tuesday.
