Mangalore: II PU Photocopies: Students in a Fix over Delay

Deccan Herald

Mangalore, May 20: The delay on the part of the Pre-University Education Department in furnishing the photocopies of II year PU examination answerscripts has put the student community in a fix.

The Department, in the meantime, has extended the last date to apply for revaluation from May 20 to May 25. However, with just five days for the deadline, no student, who applied for the photo copies, has received them, so far. While the extension of the last date may prove to be a breather, the delay in furnishing the copies has put a number of students in a dilemma - whether to wait for the photocopies or to apply for re-valuation without waiting for the copies.

The PU Board charges Rs 750 for re-valuation and Rs 400 to supply photocopy of an answerscript. Thus, a student will have to shell out a minimum of Rs 3,450 if he or she opts for re-valuation of at least three papers (may be four in some cases) along with seeking photocopies. This, apart from the postal charges or the bus fare if the students plan applying in person by going to Bangalore.

The PU Board officials say that if the student is confident of getting more marks, they can straight away apply for revaluation.

‘Don’t wait’

“What is the need for waiting for the photocopies?” they question. (As per the rule, the fee for revaluation will be refunded if the student gets 6 per cent more marks).

However, a few parents who contacted Deccan Herald, sought to know the reason for PU Board not giving more time to apply for revaluation or delivering photocopies of answerscripts at the earliest.

Any parent would be interested to seek an opinion from an expert on the performance of their wards before deciding on revaluation and this may consume at least one or two days.

As the Common Entrance Test results are expected on May 25, the marks, if any obtained during revaluation, cannot be included in the CET list.

“In such a case, why can’t the PU Board give more time between delivery of photo copies of answerscripts and submitting application for revaluation,?” a professor questioned.
The number of students who have submitted applications seeking photocpies of their answer papers is said to be highest this year.

The pre-university annual examination has recroded an overall pass percentage of 43.34 across the State.
Only 2,62,802 students have passed out of 6,18,615 who appeared for the examination, indicating abysmal performance with 57 pc of total students failing the examination. Dakshina Kannada has recorded highest pass percentage of 80.92
