Mangalore University's Degree Exam Question Paper: Comedy of Errors

Mangalore, May 20:  The image of Mangalore University, known for quality education in the past, had recently lost some sheen after the LLB marks card scandal came out in the open. The University is in the news again, for the 'comedy of errors' that has crept in the question paper pertaining to the  final year's second semester compulsory subject, 'human rights, environment studies and gender equality', held on Tuesday May 19.

Mangalore University is considered to be one of the better managed universities, as compared to other universities in the state. But the printing mistakes that have occurred in the final examination question paper of degree level have unwillingly dragged it into the news once again.

A number of mistakes were found in the Kannada version of the question paper pertaining to ‘Human Rights, environmental studies and gender equality' examination held on Tuesday May 19.

In the first question, the word 'Credit' was wrongly printed as 'Cridit' in Kannada while the word 'Raktadottada' appeared as 'Rakshadottada'. Whereas the mistakes like 'Bhayotpadana' instead of 'Bhayotpaadane', 'Lingadharita' instead of 'Lingaadhaarita' and 'Padiyuchchugalu' instead of 'Padiyachchugalu' were some of the mistakes found therein, sometimes giving a distorted meaning to the original words.

The University has also tested the IQ level of its degree level students, by posing questions like 'which is our national bird and which is our national flower?' etc., in the question paper.

Under these circumstances, doubts about the Kannada language knowledge of the question paper makers, quality control being exercised by the University on question papers, etc., becomes relevant. Will the university take measures to ensure that such faux pas will not happen again?
