BJP MP Sunny Deol puts 'aide' to do his work, faces criticism

Chandigarh, Jul 2 (IANS):  Sunny Deol, actor and first-time MP from Gurdaspur in Punjab, has triggered a row by appointing screenwriter Gurpreet Singh Palheri as his 'aide' to coordinate with government officials on his behalf. The decision has not gone well with the BJP and the public.

Many trolled the BJP lawmaker on social media, sharing hilarious memes and dialogues from his films to take a jibe at him.

Facing criticism, Deol on Tuesday came out with a statement by saying it was unfortunate to see a controversy being created out of nothing at all. Deol on Monday announced that Palheri will look after the affairs of his constituency on his behalf.

Party insiders said Palheri had also been authorised to take up issues related to Gurdaspur with Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal.

"Palheri's appointment is a clear-cut indication that he has been authorised to chair meetings, including review meetings of the Central government-sponsored schemes, on behalf of Deol," a senior state BJP leader told IANS.

"This is unfair of Deol as he is accountable to the people who voted for him," he added.

Trying to justify the appointment, Deol in a tweet said he has appointed his personal assistant to represent his office in Gurdaspur. "This appointment has been made to ensure smooth flow of work whenever I am out of Gurdaspur to attend Parliament or travelling for work," he tweeted.

"We have our entire party leadership in the constituency to look into matters who have my full support and vice versa."

Deol clarified that he would do his best to serve his people to the best of his capacity.

Newly appointed Palhari has acted in Deol's movies, including 'Yamla, Pagla, Deewana', 'Ghayal, Once Again', 'Son of Sardar' and 'Manje Bistre' among others.

The BJP actor turned seasoned politician Sunny Deol thinks Indian democracy and attend parliament like hiring 'Bai'(Housemaid)doing the daily household chores.
If he can't attend parliament represent the people they have voted it will be a clear violation against peoples' mandate.
MPs are entitled to Rs.50,000 per month as salary, Rs.45,000 as constituency allowance, Rs.15,000 as office expenses and Rs.30,000 for secretarial assistance. When Parliament is in session, they get a daily allowance of Rs.2,000. MPs are also reimbursed for 34 flight trips and unlimited rail and road travel for the year on official business. expenses over the last year, or just over Rs. 2.7 lakh a month per Member of Parliament.
Every year, each MP is allocated Rs 5 crore to carry out development works in his/her constituency under the MPLAD Scheme. Under the scheme, MPs can write to local district authorities recommending work they want to be carried out in their constituencies.

These projects can range from sectors such as education, health, sanitation, agriculture to the construction of roads, among others. The guidelines for utilizing the MPLAD funds state that the projects recommended by the MPs should have long-term public utility and contribute to the creation of durable community assets based on local needs.

Why the taxpayers should pay him Rs 5 crores per annum or over 3 lakh in salary per month if can't fulfill to oblige as per the constitution to which he swears?

Do India lacks intellectuals and highly qualified clean imagined politician instead of this screen actors?

Why do people vote for them. If the people want to see the actors and heroines, just go for his campaign and see him for a day. Why suffer for five years, wasting your precious votes. Do people think that these people staying in bungalows and air conditions, will understand the situation of a common man. No never.

And the people of the party calling these actors to join their parties are fully fooling the people.

This is a clear case of reach of trust and cheating with voters. If he cannot handle his post let him resign and let his Aide contest in by poll and win the seat.

Narendra led BJP has ruined democracy. This being a new example of a classic example of using proxies to win an election. Democracy is a joke where elections are being won in the name of jobless actors, religion, cow and dead soldiers

This action of Sunny goes well with the campaign for the General Election put up by Modi and BJP. They were saying: Every vote given to whichever candidate they would vote would go to the account of Modi. In the light of such campaign only Modi matters no matter whom people vote. Then what difference it makes whether it is Sunny Deol or his proxy who works for the people of the constituency? Having said this, this is completely wrong under the People Representation Act. An elected man cannot appoint a proxy.

Earlier we had aspiring politicians putting up statues in their stead during campaigning and then an ex cricketer who had his manager stand in for him as the heat was too much during the campaign period.

And now we have a dhai kilo ka hath actor/ politician who is subcontracting his seat to a screen writer.

This is totally a new trend which is now emerging in Indian politics.
