Sullia, May 26: Sanskrit and Veda University will soon be set up in the state. Special officers for the purpose will be appointed for the purpose. The government is especially interested in the education of the people, said state home minister Dr V S Acharya. He was speaking after conferring 'Sri Keshava Smriti' awards to performers in various fields at the valedictory programme of the Vasanta Veda Camp organized by Sri Keshavakripa Veda and Art Foundation, Sullia Old Gate here on Monday May 25.

"India was the nerve centre of education and taught the world, at a time when other countries were yet to do any headway in gaining knowledge. In spite of repeated aggressions by foreign invaders, we have succeeded in retaining the basic essence of our cultural heritage. The ancient knowledge is being given a new lease of life now. The camps like these work to revive our culture," the minister felt.

Sri Shanta Malikarjuna Swamiji of Virajpet Arameri Mutt, who delivered the benedictory address, advised the people to nurture mutual faith and trust with others and strongly believe in the principles of equality. The process of mending the broken minds should begin from the student days, he advised.

MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik presided.

Brahmasri Mahesh Bhat Choontar, Mangalore Rangabharati director K V Raman, Bellare Sri Sadashiva Veda Patha Shala founder president P S Sadashiv Rao and Yakshagana artiste Mahabala Shettyu Patla were given Sri Keshava Smriti awards on the occasion.
