Mangalore: SIM Card Fraud Linked with Delhi Blasts: Two held, Released on Bail

Mangalore, May 26: Relating to a mobile SIM card recovered from the terrorists connected with the blasts in Delhi last year, Sunil Shetty (33) and G Vinod (22) from the city were arrested by the city policemen. Both have secured bail after being remanded under judicial custody for four days.

Sunil Shetty, a resident of Mannagudda area in the city, runs a mobile store outlet named 'M Planet' in front of Baliga Store, Bejai. G Vinod is a resident of Bajpe here and works as a sales executive for Guru Durga Enterprises near Kuntikan Junction.

It was found, that the mobile SIM card the policemen laid their hands on during the Delhi blasts investigation, was bought from 'M Planet' store here. This SIM stood in the name of Bharati Vijay. The policemen found, that Bharati Vijay had bought a mobile phone set and a SIM Card bearing No.9741159670 from this mobile outlet on June 24, 2008. On the next day, she furnished address confirmation records, photo-identity card and photograph as required.  In a complaint filed with the Urwa Police Station in the city, Bharati had complained that Sunil Shetty had cheated her by activating the said number in the name of Winnie Fernandes.

It was also found that Sunil Shetty and Vinod issued an Airtel mobile SIM card with number 9008173294 in the name of Bharati Vijay by creating fake records of address proof. This SIM card was found with the terrorists during the Delhi blasts.

The Urwa policemen who registered the case and investigated the issue, had arrested the above two persons on May 12. On being produced in the court, they were sent to judicial custody. They were released on bail on May 15.

The policemen gave this information to the media with some delay.
