Udupi, May 26: A resident of Moodabettu in Kodavoor village near Malpe here,  was arrested by the policemen on Sunday May 24  night, on charges of creating fake recommendation letters in the name of former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam and trying to lure others with employment offers by making use of the e-mail ID of a company.

The youth, named Dr Niranjan Chidanand Bhat (36), an engineering degree holder, is accused of getting hold of an e-mail ID of a firm and sending e-mails through this ID to several people, offering employment opportunities to them. The locals said, he used to create recommendation letters purported to have been issued by eminent personalities and sold them for a price. He is also charged with creating records with fake signatures of the former president for recommending himself for being conferred with the prestigious Hoover Medal of the USA by sending the forged letter to the secretary, Hoover Medal Board of Award, New York. Niranjan is also accused of sending fake records to Science and Technology Institute, Japan and Dr Yogi Goswamy, New York.  It may be recalled, that the Hoover Award, being given to towering personalities by the Amercian Society of Mechanical Engineers, was awarded to Abdul Kalam last year.

Deputy superintendent of police Jayant Shetty said, the conspiracy of the youth was still in primitive stage and no one was monetarily defrauded so far. Niranjan, son of a retired bank official, has been plagued by unemployment problems and at times, lost control over his mind, sources said.

The police team recovered fake records and rubber stamps in the house of the accused. The computer used to send the e-mails was confiscated from 'Surf-n-View Cyber Café’ located near Karavali Junction here. A case has been registered against the accused in Malpe police station and he was produced in the court on Monday May 25. The policemen also want to conduct a test on his mental health. He has been remanded to judicial custody till June 6.

Why mental check? Do you do the same excercise in all the criminal cases? Why his photo is not published - because he is a brahmin ? Dear Jayanth Shetty & others, do not differentiate between criminals, a crimianl is a criminal whether he is a Muslim, Christian or a Hindu.
