Mangalore: Veterinary School soon for District: Palemar

Mangalore, Jun 4: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar informed, that steps are being taken to open a veterinary school at Koila near Uppinangady soon. He was speaking after distributing various facilities to beneficiaries at the office of the district veterinary department here on Wednesday June 3.

The state government has initiated several steps to encourage the development of cows belonging to indigenous species. Special grants are being given for the purpose, to progressive farmers. As per the census conducted in the year 2007, the number of cows in the district has come down significantly, giving rise for concerns. This is happening due to the degradation of environment. It is the responsibility of every one to save and conserve vegetation and forests, he stressed.

Taking serious note of the practice of using substandard injections while treating animals in the district, he expressed his shock at the way the animals are treated just because they can not protest. "If you treat the animals badly, you will be born as animals in your next birth," he warned the doctors.

The minister handed over the cheques towards honorariums payable to the activists of Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Rural Development Project to the veterinary officers of the concerned taluks. Subisidy was also handed over to three voluntary organizations which are involved with the development of indigenous species of cows in the district. The minister in addition, initiated the mobile veterinary clinic sanctioned to Puttur taluk on the occasion.

Deputy director of animal husbandry department Ashok Kumar gave details about the activities of the department. Zilla panchayat president Venkat Dambekody, corporator Padmanabh, president of the Poultry Farmers Association Dayanand Adyar and Veterinary Doctors Association president Dr G Shivanand were present.
