Udupi, Jun 11: The policemen have arrested a man who is claimed to have cleverly killed his old-aged mother-in-law. The accused has been identified as Narasimha Achar alias Sriram (55).

Srimati (71), wife of Mukund Puranik, residing in Kannaradi House in Manipur village had died while milking the cows in the cattle-shed at around 4.30 am on April 29 this year. In fact, Achar had come from behind and strangulated her with the help of a towel and then escaped. The family thought it to be a case of cardiac arrest and conducted her funeral. Achar was informed of the death when he visited the home three days later, and he had promptly grieved the death of his mother-in-law.

When one of the relatives expressed the suspicion that the accused might have killed the woman, he went missing. Only after this incident, the children of the deceased woman filed a complaint with the inspector general of police (IGP), western range. Under the IGP's guidance, the police could unravel the mystery behind the woman's death.

Achar had started living in a room in Udupi, a few days before killing his mother-in-law. On April 29 early morning, he came from Udupi, laid in wait near the cattle shed of his in-law's house and killed the woman, before going back to Udupi. From Udupi, he went to Sirsi and came back to the home of his wife's parents three days thereafter.

The man, who went missing after he was suspected, was arrested by the Kaup policemen on Wednesday June 10 from Bhatrakody of Neermarga. The policemen said, he killed his mother-in-law as she used to hurl abuses at his wife for silly reasons.
