Mangalore, Jun 11: The Congress members, who are in the opposition in the local taluk panchayat, raised a furor over what they alleged as the highhandedness of the officials in twisting the decisions taken at the earlier meetings to suit their convenience. They demanded for explanation from the officials concerned and to move the same resolutions again.

Yashwant Alva, a Congress taluk panchayat member, raised the topic of the decisions taken in the earlier sessions having been tinkered by the officials. "You have written proceedings that are contradictory to what was moved by us and adopted at the session. It was decided to send a report to the governor against the zilla panchayat officials who failed to invite the taluk panchayat members to the government function organized in Gurpur revenue division. However, the proceedings you have recorded do not have any mention of this fact," he pointed out.

An exchange of heated words took place between taluk panchayat chief executive officer Kantaraj and the Congress members on this issue. After the Congress members threatened to walk out, the officials promised to take care not to commit such mistakes in future.

Thereafter, a fresh decision was taken to boycott functions in which the taluk panchayat members are overlooked. President Ramachandra Kumpala sympathized with the concerned members, saying that he was sorry about the mistake committed by the officials. Discussions also hovered around Nemmadi Centres, issuance of ration cards etc., The tahsildar said that the ration cards will be distributed by the month end.

Vice-president Shriyala Hegde, standing committee chairman Vinod Kumar etc were present.
