Mangalore: Congress says BJP has Failed on all Fronts

MANGALORE, Jun 12 (The Hindu): The district unit of the Congress on Thursday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party-government had failed on all fronts in the district and its proposed celebrations, “Vikasa Sankalp” here on Friday, were aimed at “fooling” the people.

Ivan D’Souza, vice-president of the unit, told presspersons that although more than a year had elapsed since assuming power, the BJP had not distributed one-kg rice to the poor at Rs. 3 a kg.

Under the BJP administration, the housing schemes had taken a beating. Of the 5,295 beneficiaries identified under the Rural Ashraya Scheme, only 29 had got houses in 2008-09. Contrary to this, as many 6,252 people had occupied new houses, out of the targeted 9,529 beneficiaries in the district in 2006-07. In 2005-06, 5,197 families had benefited out of the targeted 5,747, he said.
