B'lore: Inclusion of Sadar Lingayat in 'Most Backward Caste' - Govt Withdraws Order

Bangalore, Jun 12:
In a quick-fix move, the government has withdrawn a controversial order to include forward caste Sadar Lingayat under 'most backward caste' category to claim reservation.

Following criticism, the government not only revoked the order but also placed under secretary K Subbaiah under suspension, who issued the order without bringing it to the notice of higher-ups.

The order came out last week to treat Sadar Lingayats as Hindu Sadar (backward caste), which would help this forward caste community to enjoy reservation benefits given to people under the 2A reserved category.

This is not the first time the government has bungled in its effort to appease the Veerashaiva (Lingayat) community. Earlier, the government had to withdraw a similar order that placed 19 Lingayat sub-sects from general to category 3B.
