Udupi: Oscar Fernandes Might Become Party General Secretary again

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Jun 13: It is learnt, the national organization set up of the Congress Party will be reconstituted shortly. In all likelihood and as per reliable information, Oscar Fernandes will be given an important responsibility. Sources claim, that the party will make him the general secretary again.

Oscar, who was elected to Lok Sabha five times and to Rajya Sabha twice, has most of the time, held national-level posts. When the late Rajiv Gandhi was the Prime Minister, he had been the parliamentary board secretary before becoming member of the Congress Executive Committee. He then held the post of the general secretary of the party, before becoming a central minister in the previous UPA regime. He had later opted to sacrifice the ministerial berth and spelt out his priority to work for the organizational strengthening of the party.

Oscar is likely to figure in the list of reconstituted office-bearers of the party, which is scheduled to be released in a couple of days.
