Three Undertrials Escape in Bhatkal


Karwar, Jun 14 (The Hindu): Three undertrials lodged in Bhatkal sub-jail escaped by throwing chilli powder on the police on Friday night.

They have been identified as Rashid Mohammad (24) of Bhatkal, Harish Ramayya Bandi (24) of Konar, and Sadashiv Nagappa Naik (30) of Mundalli village.

The undertrials reportedly attacked police constable Narayan Gowda with plates and threw chilli powder on him before escaping.

Rashid was arrested in Shimoga in connection with motorcycle theft cases.

He had reportedly committed crimes in Bhatkal taluk and was brought to Bhatkal for interrogation.

Harish Bandi was arrested in September last while allegedly trying to snatch a chain from a woman.

Sadashiv was arrested on the charge of setting a petty shop on fire after its owner refused to give him cigarette on credit.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Uttara Kannada, V. B. Gaonkar visited Bhatkal on Saturday.

Investigation is on to know how the undertrials were able to get chilli powder in the sub-jail.
