Mangalore: Three ‘Junior Stars of India’ from State

Mangalore, Jun 15: The Karnataka team bagged the 55th Junior Girls’ National Ball Badminton Championship which concluded at Bilwara in Rajasthan on Sunday.

The State boys’ team finished fourth in the boys championship.

Savitha M. K., Soumya G. and Maneesh Kumar received the prestigious Junior Star of India title, instituted by the Ball Badminton Federation of India, for their outstanding performance.

Ms. Savitha is pursuing B. Com. at Alva’s College and Ms. Soumya is a II PU student at PES College in Bangalore.

Mr. Kumar is pursuing Bachelor of Computer Applications at Sheshadripuram First Grade College, Bangalore. The girls’ team beat Tamil Nadu by 29-26 and 29-6 to win the championship, coach Praveen Kumar K. told The Hindu over telephone from Bilwara. The team was led by Spoorthi H. S., who is pursuing Bachelor of Human Resource Development at Alva’s College at Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada.

The event was organised by the Rajasthan Ball Badminton Association and was held from June 11 to 14.
