Udupi, Jun 15: Food and civil supplies minister Halappa has advised the Billavas to repose trust in the advice of the elders and get freedom through education and strength through unity. He was speaking after releasing a souvenir titled ‘Honganasu’, brought out at the valedictory ceremony of the inauguration of the renovated shrine of Udayavar Billava Mahajan Sangh, consecration of the idols of Lord Ganapati, Vitobha Rakhumai and Narayana Guru and Brahmakalashabhisheka on Saturday June 13.

"The government has been taking up a number of programmes for the upliftment of the Billava/Ediga community. Land has also been given to the community for various purposes. Efforts are on to provide a two-acre plot to the community in Mangalore," he revealed.

Akhila Bharat Billavara Union Mangalore president Navinchandra Suvarna presided. Sri Satyananda Teertha Swamiji of Shivagiri Mutt delivered benedictory address. Home minister Dr V S Acharya, MLAs K Raghupati Bhat and Lalaji Mendon, MLC Kota Srinivas Poojary, former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, retired tahsildar Tonse Lakshmikant, Ashok Anchan, an entrpreneur from Dubai and several other dignitaries were present.

On the occasion, the minister was felicitated by the Swamiji.

Billava Mahajana Sangh president Bhaskar Kotian welcomed. Shrine renovation committee president Vijaykumar Udyavar delivered introductory address. General secretary Pratapkumar presented the programme. Editor of the souvenir Raviraj, also addressed the gathering.
