Padmapriya Case: Congress Launches Post Card Campaign


Mangalore, Jun 16 (DHNS): The women’s wing of the District Congress organised “thousand post card campaign, demanding CBI probe into the death of Udupi MLA Raghupathy Bhat’s wife Padmapriya. The post card is addressed to CM B S Yeddyurappa.

Speaking on the occasion, District President Veronica Kornelio the death of Padmapriya still remains mysterious even after one year. Impartial probe is necessary to bring out the truth. If the government fails to reply within 15 days, we will take up 10,000 post card campaign.

“Home Minister has failed to bring out the truth by initiating impartial probe into the mysterious death of Padmapriya” said former Kaup MLA Vasanth Salian.

Congress leader Shyamala Bhandari said truth should be known.  State Youth Congress Secretary Amrith Shenoy, Udupi Block Congress Secretary Janardhan Bhandarkar, Treasurer Harish Kini and others were present.

Exchange of words

The protest campaign ended with the heated exchange of words between police and Congress leaders in front of head post office.

Speaking to Deccan Herald, Town Police Station Inspector M G Nayak informed “Congress members have not given any prior intimation concerning the protest campaign to be held on the spot. I was at the counting centre at Taluk Panchayat office when I received a call from a public complaining the inconvenience. The traffic was jammed for some time” he said.

Congress Zilla Panchayat  Member Sarasu Bangera condemned the arrogant behaviour of police personnel. The protest was peaceful.

 There was no political intention behind the campaign, she added.

    Too little but never too late! There is a total collapse of law and order in the State especially in Udupi district. Number of immigrant labourers also died at Nagarjuna power project and hardly any case is registered. Udupi known for its temples and schools and colleges is slowly becoming a place for evil dances.
