Mangalore: Social Worker, Congress Leader K Purushottam Shetty No More

Mangalore, Jun 20: K Purushottam Shetty (93), a resident of Kotedadiguttu of Amblamogaru village in the taluk, who was a senior leader of the Congress party, past president of the Taluk Board and the president of Mahatma Gandhi Peace Foundation here, breathed his last at his residence on Friday June 19.

Shetty, a veteran Gandhian, had also been the president of Amblamogaru gram panchayat. Besides being the Taluk Board (present taluk panchayat) president for five years, he had functioned as APMC director and office-bearer of the Congress Party in various capacities. He was unmarried and believed in simple living.

Union law minister M Veerappa Moily, former union minister Janardhan Poojary, MLA U T Khader, Dakshina Kannada district Congress Committee president B Ramanath Rai and scores of other dignitaries have condoled Shetty's demise.
