Bangalore: HC Directs State to Consider Reservation for Single Girl Child

Daijiworld Media Network – Bangalore (SB)

Bangalore, Jun 20: The High Court following petition has directed the state government to consider petition asking for reservation in favour of a single girl child in professional courses such as medical and engineering. Thereby it has directed the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) to consider the petition.

Following a writ petition by M R Chikkaramegowda filed on June 4, the High Court single bench comprising Justice Venugopal Gowda on June 10 has directed the state government’s higher education and medical education departments to respond to the petitioner considering the representation within three-month time.

The petition states that Chikkaramegowda’s daughter M C Padmashree, a student of Kendriya Vidyalaya had availed the benefits of single child policy of the Central government to obtain admission for classes 11 and 12. However, he argued in his petition that the KEA not adhering to the policy during CET counseling had created obstacles to his daughter’s chances.

However, framing a policy for the quota will take a long time and that CET counseling for the current year was already underway.
