Mangalore: Minister Umesh Katti Promises Aid to Help Farmers Save Coconut Crops

Mangalore, Jun 21:  The minister for horticulture and prisons Umesh V Katti during his visit to the district said that the government will help with financial assistance if a pilot project is planned by the farmers and the horticulture department officials to control infestation disease (‘Nusi Roga’) which affects coconuts. 

After meeting with officials at the horticulture department office, the minister said that the problem has been found to be a serious issue as it can only be prevented through a joint effort by the officials and coconut growers.























 

Katti, also said that as per the demand for supportive price for arecanut, government will provide it at Rs 75 per kg, but the demand for Rs 80 per kg cannot be fulfilled.  

He also said that the horticulture department which works for the farmers, will always assist the farmers by providing necessities.  

The minister also visited the district sub-jail in the city. He met the officials and the staff there and discussed the developmental project and the problems. After watching the progress of the new building for the sub-jail, he said that it will be inaugurated in six months.
