Mangalore: Police Team Formed to Crack Temple Robberies

Mangalore, Jun 22: Special team has been formed to crack temple robberies with the rise in incidents of theft at temples in Dakshina Kannada district, informed Inspector General of Police Gopal B Hosur.

Addressing media persons on Sunday June 22, Hosur said that police will hold a meeting of managing trustees of all the temples in the district soon. They will be instructed in writing on the need to install burglar alarms and CCTVs, he said and added will be convinced on the need to efficient security staff.

Pointing at the Sunday’s incident where thieves were successful in decamping with gold ornaments worth Rs 40,000 from Kudupu temple, Hosur said that the loss would have been much more if the burglar alarm had not alerted the locals. Gold Jewellery worth Rs 90 lac was saved from going into the hands of the thieves, he said.
