Mangalore,  Jun 22:
The members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Monday June 22 held a protest in front of the office of deputy director, women and child welfare department in zilla panchayat (ZP) office building at Urwa Store condemning the complaints registered against the members after they unearthed stock of outdated food packets at several anganwadis across the district.

Leading the protest DYFI president Muneer Katipalla said that the protest is organized to create awareness among people on the gross misuse of power by the officials and about their apathy towards welfare of the common man. The move to register complaints against the members is in retaliation to the humiliation the women and child welfare department officials underwent with unearthing of stock of outdated food packets, which in fact mirrors the apathy of the officials concerned, he alleged.

The members took out a rally from the entrance of ZP building to the deputy director's office holding placards condemning the act by the deputy director, who along with her officials lodged complaints at several police stations across the district. In the complaints, it has been alleged that the members' entry into the anganwadis was forcible and illegal. The protestors thus termed the move of deputy director as anti-democratic and anti-social. In fact unearthing of food packets that were stocked beyond expiry date in the anganwadis in various taluks of the districts, beginning with raid on an anganwadi at Angaragundi, Jokatte on June 1, saved children from serious health hazard, they said.

Muneer further added that the move was also part of the department officials' way to create roadblock to the pro-people step taken by the DYFI members.
