Udupi: Tulu Sahitya Academy to Confer Awards-2008 on Jun 24

Udupi, Jun 24: A programme for handing over the honorary awards and awards for books pertaining to the year 2008, is being held at 4 pm on Wednesday June 24, at Udupi MGM College Ravindra Kala Mantap.

Bannanje Babu Amin (writer, researcher), Sadashiv Salian (Tulu theatre and cine artiste) and Dasa Bangera (Tulu folklore artiste) will receive the honorary awards. Awards for books will be given to Bola Chittaranjandas Shetty (‘Binaidi’ prose), Nagaraj Gurppur ('Tambila' play) and Mohammed Kulai ('Mittabail Yamunakka' - translation to Kannada).

State home minister Dr V S Acharya will hand over the honorary awards. MP D V Sadanand Gowda will inaugurate the programme. Kannada Culture and information department secretary B R Jayaramaraje Urs will confer the book awards. Mumbai University retired head of Kannada department Prof Taltaje Vasant Kumar, Ambadlpady temple trustee Ni Bee Vijaya Ballal and retired Kannada lecturer from Kasargod Dr Kamalaksha Kuntar will take part as honorary guests.

Academy president Dr Paltady Ramakrishna Achar will preside over the programme.
