Puttur, June 24: The taluk panchayat session held on Tuesday June 23, was presided by its president Savitri Shivaram. During the proceedings, the issue of formation of Kadaba or Nellyadi taluk came up and the members failed to reach a consensus at the end.

At the beginning, zilla panchayat member Asha Timmappa raised the topic of carving out of Kadaba taluk and urged the session to pass a favourable resolution on the issue and send the same to the state government. Taluk panchayat member Sarvottam Gowda immediately rose to his feet with the demand for making Nellyadi the headquarters of the proposed taluk, even if the taluk is named as Kadaba.

Asha Timmappa and TP members Seetaram Gowda Kodimbala, Udaykumar Bilinele etc., stuck to their stand that Kadaba was more suitable to become the headquarters of the proposed taluk and wanted the TP to take a positive decision on the issue. Taluk panchayat members Sarvottam Gowda and Anand Gowda insisted on making Nellyadi the taluk headquarters failing which, they demanded for dropping of Shiradi, Nellyadi, Kaukrady and Golitottu villages from the purview of the proposed taluk. "The people of Nellyadi and surrounding villages will never accept Kadaba as the taluk centre," they stressed.

As every one started to shout, a commotion-like situation was witnessed at the meeting. Taluk panchayat executive officer Y Shivaramaiah, who intervened, said that it would not be proper for the taluk panchayat to pass a resolution on the issue.

The issue was then shelved without arriving at a concrete decision.
