Mangalore: Tackling Monsoon Menace – Night Gang Service Extended to Suratkal

Mangalore, Jun 24: Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) this monsoon is all set to bail out public from the common problems faced during the season. The service of the Night Gang which was constituted by the MCC to tackle monsoon menace four years ago in few of the City areas has been extended to Suratkal sub-division from this monsoon.

The gang formed for the 24-hour service of the public will handle natural calamities and rescue operations. The team to work during the night shifts has already been appointed. As the public had to suffer a great deal during the last rainy season as a precautionary measure the MCC has formed the team.

The team will comprise about six members and are not MCC workers. The works will be on contract basis and the process of calling tender is underway. The team will also be provided with the required equipment to handle the situation and also dropped by vehicles to the place of disaster. They can be contacted at 2220359.

As the rain deepens the team will begin their work. They will take up works such as clearing up the storm water drains and also set up temporary drains, informed MCC engineer Arun, who will supervise the duties of night gangs.

About night gang

The night gang comprises about eight members in a team. They work between 7 pm to 8 pm and can be contacted during flash floods at 2220344. This gang was constituted four years ago.

    Thanks for this useful information, which many residents are unaware. Can you pls clarify the night gang''s duty hours. Is it 7.00 p.m. to 8 p.m. (one hour) or 7.00 p.m. to 8.00 a.m.?
