Mysore: Dacoits Strike at Cop’s House

Mysore, Jun 25 (DHNS): A gang of six armed dacoits raided an inspector’s house in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar, known as Police Layout, on T Narsipur Road in the city during the wee hours of Wednesday. The gang decamped with gold and silver valuables worth Rs 1.35 lakh and Rs 10,000 cash.

Inspector Nagappa attached to Hanur police station was in Kollegal on duty at the time of the incident. Soon after receiving the information, he rushed home.

Nazarbad police said at around 2 am, five men with covered faces barged into the house by breaking open a portion of the main door with boulders. While two of the dacoits possessed a revolver others were wielding hatchet. When Nagappa’s nephew Manoj tried to stop them, he was allegedly beaten up by a dacoit leaving him unconscious.

Nagappa’s wife Anjula, children Akash, Ashwini and mother Sunkammanni, who were sleeping in rooms in the ground floor, came to the hall only to be threatened by the dacoits.

Barring Manoj, the remaining were holed up in the puja room downstairs after relieving them of their gold valuables weighing about 80 grams. All they could pocket was only Rs 10,000 cash. This apart they could lay their hands on 200 grams of silver articles and an ATM card.

When the dacoits asked an inmate of the house about the ATM card’s pin number they were given wrong combination of numbers, the police added.

The dacoits were conversing in Hindi. They had come in a van which was parked in front of the house. Another dacoit was inside the van, keeping a vigil outside, according to a victim.

As soon as the dacoits vacated the house, those holed up in the puja room forcibly opened the door. Akash ran into the house of Lokayukta SP  D’Souza S E, who resides nearby and informed him about the incident. The official alerted the police control room. Manoj had regained his consciousness by then.

DCP (Crime and Traffic) Shivalingappa arrived at the spot along with finger print experts and sniffer dogs were pressed into service by Inspector T D Jayaram. ACP V A Pujar and other police personnel visited the spot.

Sans night patrolling

Although around 80 houses have come up in the locality, not many including Nagappa’s house have neighbours. The houses in this area are far and few between and no night patrolling is done in the area by the respective police station.
