Mangalore: Anganwadi Scam – SHRC Asked to Act against Deputy Director

Mangalore, Jun 25: The members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) on Wednesday June 24 here complained to State Human Rights Commission chairman S R Nayak against Shakuntala, deputy director, women and child welfare department alleging that she has lodged false complaints against the members helped unearth stock of outdated protein food packets at several anganwadis across the district. Shakuntala in the complaints filed at various police stations across the district has alleged that the members' entry into the anganwadis was forcible and illegal. 

The members complained that deputy director, who was responsible for making available healthy protein food packets through her able supervision, with the unearthing of the scam, proved as an example for dereliction of duty. The members further demanded that legal action against her for violating human rights. 

Nayak who accepted the complaint assured to look into the matter and take action after obtaining the report from the deputy commissioner (DC) in this regard. The delegation led by DYFI district president Muneer Katipalla comprised members Samuel, Lingoppa Nantoor, Praveen Bajal, Imtiaz and Ramesh Kumar.

It can be recalled here that the DYFI members had visited several anganwadis across the district beginning with raid on an anganwadi at Angaragundi, Jokatte on June 1 and complained that outdated protein food packets were found at these anganwadis. Following this DC conducted inquiries that brought into light that outdated protein food packets were stocked in 216 anganwadis across the district.
