BANGALORE, JUN 26:  In addition to the plethora of universities in Karnataka, the B S Yeddyurappa regime has decided to establish a separate Davamgere university for the two districts of Davangere and Chitradurga districts, presently covered by the Kuvempu University based in Shimoga district.

Briefing reporters after a meeting of the state cabinet, Karnataka’s home minister Dr V S Acharya said the Cabinet decided to amend the Karnataka University Act to set up the university on 170 acres in Davanagere, which would cover about 20,000 students.

The Cabinet decided to sanction Rs 232 crore for the construction of "Suvarna Soudha" in Belgaum, on the lines of Vidhan Soudha, the state secretariat here. The construction would be completed within one-and-half-years.
Dr Acharya said the Cabinet also decided to shift an engineering college from Bellary City to Hoovinahadagali in the district for the benefit of students reversing its previous decision ostensibly taken on account of paucity of students.
The Cabinet also decided to bring the Coastal Development Authority under the jurisdiction of the Planning Department and sanctioned  Rs 2 crore to the Authority as an initial fund. To strengthen the Coastal Security Force, it approved recruitment of 60 police personnel of various ranks.

It decided to provide the Government guarantee to the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSSB) to borrow Rs 150 crore loan from Syndicate and Corporation Banks to implement water supply and drainage works in several towns in the State.
