Puttur, Jun 27: Relating to the death of a student named Deepika K after a wooden almirah fell on her all of a sudden while she was sitting on her bench, district deputy director of the department of public instruction Chaame Gowda has through an order, suspended Ratna, headmistress of Golitottu government higher primary school in the taluk. The student had died after a heavy wooden almirah that served as a demarcation for her class, fell on her and one of its latches pierced her skull.

The incident had occurred on Wednesday June 24 and the policemen who inspected the spot, had concluded that the almirah had fallen because of the strong storm that swept the region on Wednesday. There were allegations that one of the legs of the almirah had worn out over the years and that the almirah was balanced precariously.

A release by the department said, the action follows the negligence and irresponsibility shown by the headmistress, leading to the said unfortunate incident. The release also added that the step follows an instruction issued by Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat chief executive officer P Shivshankar.

Dont punish punish Headmistress for this mistake. Although as head of the school, she is responsible. I feel our education ministry is also responsible by not replacing the worn out furnitures.. Let everybody take responsibility.
