Bantwal: Taluk APMC Market Revenue Exceeds Target by 49 Percent

Bantwal, Jun 29: The taluk Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) has achieved a significant milestone in its collection of market revenue which is well above the 49 percent target set by the concerned department. 

Addressing media persons in a press conference held at APMC office, Kaikunje, here, taluk APMC president Sankappa Gowda said that the taluk APMC had constructed market centres at Mani, Vogga, Manchi, and Siddakatte, at a total cost of Rs 41 lac and handed over the possession to the concerned gram panchayats.  

He added that plans are being drawn to develop the access roads to various ‘shandy’ centres across the taluk and electronic weighing scales are being provided to 15 co-operative societies.  

Gowda said that accidental insurance claims amounting to Rs 3.50 lac related to seven cases under ‘Sanjivini’ farmers’ coverage, were handed over to the beneficiaries. 

The collection of auctions of market rights annually is the key source of revenue for the APMC.  The concerned department had set a target of Rs 83 lac for the accounting year 2008–09 and the taluk APMC had succeeded in collecting Rs 1.24 crore.

Besides the revenue from the market centres, the taluk APMC had earned Rs 7.55 lac through issuing licenses and other sources. Compared to the revenue of Rs 53.74 lac achieved in 2007–08, the taluk APMC has earned an additional Rs 83.82 lac in 2008–09.

Taluk APMC vice-president Dharnappa Poojary, directors Ashok Kumar Barimar, B Padmashekar Jain, Ammu Rai, K Mahabala Alva, Bhagirati, Annu Naik, K T Shailaja, Sridar Shetty, N Babu, S M Hussain, Sudarshan Jain, S R Satischandra, Raghuram Mayya, Venkatesh Navada, and Manjunath Shetty, department representative V R Jaya Kumar, and secretary Lilly D’Cunha were present on the occasion.
