Daijiworld Media Network – Hassan (SB)

Hassan, Jun 29: State has taken steps to file a counter-petition in Tamil Nadu High Court (HC) against an earlier petition filed at the court questioning the classical status granted to Kannada language.

Speaking to media persons on Sunday June 28 state advocate general Ashok Harnahalli said that a petition filed by one Gandhi from Tamil Nadu contests that Tamil is the most ancient language in comparison to Kannada and Telugu. The petition was filed before Kannada language was accorded classical status. And now he has filed a fresh petition questioning the prudence of decision of according classical status to the languages, he said.

The petition has also requested the Tamil Nadu HC to make Kannada Development Authority a party to the suit.
