Mangalore, Jun 29: "For on-the-spot disposal of the petitions submitted by the general public, the 'mass contact' programme of the previous government was far more effective than the present ‘Janaspandana’. I will ask the district in-charge minister to convey this response of the people to the state government," said MLA K Abhaychandra Jain.

Speaking after presiding over the revenue division-level 'Janaspandana' programme held at Suratkal on Saturday June 27, Jain said that the issuance of disability certificates to the handicapped persons is getting affected, as the concerned officials are not attending this programme. Jain warned that he would boycott such programmes altogether, if the concerned officials fail to attend them henceforth.

Mangalore Urban Development Authority chairman Dr Madhava Bhandary expressed his resentment at the fact that the people's representatives have become unavailable to the common people after the election. He asked the officials and people's representatives to actively take part in the 'Janaspandana' programmes, so that the people can put the programme to the optimum benefit.

Taluk panchayat former president Vajrakshi P Shetty, tahsildar Ravindra Nayak, zilla panchayat planning officer Takat Rao, corporator Ashok Shetty Tadambail, taluk panchayat chief executive officer Kantaraju etc were present.

On the occasion, title deeds to two beneficiaries, orders under 'Sandhya Suraksha' scheme to a few, handicapped pension orders to two handicapped persons and a cheque from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for Rs 10,000 towards hospitalization expenses, were distributed.

Even though 48 officials were present at the programme, peoples’ representatives were scarce. Out of seven gram panchayats and 12 City Corporation wards covered by the programme, only one panchayat president and one corporator took part in the programme.
