Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Jun 30: Many places in the coast got good rains on Monday June 29. Several places including Kota and Koodlu in Udupi district received three cms of rain each. The city too got rain on Monday.

The meteorological department has predicted that monsoon rains will continue in the coastal region and several places in the southern and northern hinterlands of the state during the next two days. The department sources also revealed that the rain received so far is the lowest after 1983 in the coastal belt. For example, Puttur got only 396.6 mm of rain so far, as compared to 954.8 mm during the same period last year. If we take total rainfall since January till now, Puttur had got 1196.2 mm rain last year. This year, the rainfall has been half of that, at 589.2 mm.

Agricultural activities are in full swing and the farmers are hoping that the rain god will smile on them and copious rains required for their paddy crops will not elude them. The calculations based on the movement of stars and zodiac symbols on which the people of Karnataka coast heavily rely on, have gone for a toss this year.
