Udupi: Cultures Meet as Czech Groom Marries Bride from Kaup

Udupi, Jun 30: The marriage of a Czech groom and an Indian bride was solemnized at Dandateertha Mutt's marriage hall in Kaup in the district on Monday June 29. The marriage of the two people, who come from different countries and different backgrounds, made one to get reminded about the powerful bond of love. In the case of the couple, there is another thing that binds the two - both are ardent followers of Hare Krishna movement.

Mallika Sakhi, a native of Uliyaragoly village here and Yadukuleshwara Das became man and wife at 12.15 pm.  Before joining the movement, Das was known as Jerric, son of Antonin Rubina and Hana couple from Czechoslovakia while Mallika was known as Mamata, daughter of Narayan Gorang Das and Bhakti Parayani from Uliyaragoly village. Their names were changed after joining International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON).

The parents of Mallika had sought a suitable match for their daughter through the internet. Yadukuleshwar Das, a website designer by profession in Kolkata, contacted Mallika with the help of other followers of the movement. They married as per the Vaishnava tradition. Majoor Srinivas Bhat solemnized the marriage as per the vedic rituals while Sanaka Sanatana Das, Seetasundari Devidas and hundreds of the Hare Krishna movement followers took part in the ceremony on behalf of the groom. Family of the bride was also present.
