Udupi: TP Member Irene Menezes Passes Away

Udupi, Jul 1: Congress leader and member of the local taluk panchayat from Udyavar constituency, Irene Menezes (63), breathed her last on Tuesday June 30, after a brief illness. She was also the former vice-president of the taluk panchayat.

She is survived by husband George Menezes who is a retired Syndicate Bank manager and currently working as manager of J P Lights Group, three daughters and two sons.

Irene had also functioned as the president of the Rural Women's Congress Committee and the women's wing of Udupi Block Congress Committee, member of Udyavar mandal panchayat, vice-president of the gram panchayat, member of the Land Tribunal, president of Udyavar Mahila Mandali and president, Udyavar Ganeshotsav Samiti. She was the member of the parish council of Udyavar St Francis Xavier Church besides being actively involved with Catholic Sabha, St Vincent D'Paul Council, Legion of Mary and several other service organizations. She was a liberal donor and popular leader.

Congress leader Oscar Fernandes, state home minister Dr V S Acharya, MLA K Rahupati Bhat and taluk panchayat in-charge president Satish Poojary have grieved her death and offered their condolences to the bereaved family.
