Bantwal, Jul 2: As decided in a meeting convened here on Tuesday June 30, Ircon Company, which has been executing the widening of highway work between Suratkal and B C Road, started laying service roads on either side on Wednesday July 1, as agreed upon in a meeting held in Mangalore on June 30. In spite of heavy rains, the company has been laying the roads with a mixture of sand, crushed stones and cement with the help of backhoes.

LPG tankers and ore trucks, which had been barred from moving on the road since the night of June 29, have started pounding the road again, raising a scare of the road suffering heavy damages. Many in the town feel that it would be better to block the movement of the heavy vehicles except those carrying the essential commodities, for the present. Even some merchant establishments and vehicle organizations also are prepared to face the eventuality of stopping movement of heavy vehicles for a few days, if it helps the company in speedy execution of the fly over and highway widening work.
