Mangalore: Monsoon Intensifies: Mulky Gets Eight cms Rain

Mangalore, Jul 2: The monsoon rains, which have been playing hide and seek with the aspirations of the agriculturists in the twin districts since the first week of June this year, have shown signs of good recovery. Intensified rains that poured through the entire day on Wednesday July 1 brought elation to the farmers and a sense of relief to the civic authorities.

Mulky got eight cms of rain, the highest in the state. Many places on the west coast like Kota in Udupi district, Honnavar, Ankola and Manvi in Uttara Kannada district and Bhagamandala in Kodagu district got an average of six cms of rain. The city too got over three cms of rain. The total rainfall witnessed during June still has fallen short by over 50%, as compared to the last year.

Thunder and lightning were far and few on Wednesday. No loss of lives or property has been reported so far.
