Mangalore, Jul 3: It has come to light that the computer records pertaining to applications received for change of names and photographs of the family members pertaining to these applications, stored in a computer at Mulky Nemmadi Centre, got deleted while taking a print out by the operator of the computer. With this, about 900 families are facing the likelihood of facing undue problems.

District manager of the Nemmadi Centre Ramakrishna admitted that accidentally all the records in the computer had been deleted. He said, the matter has been brought to the notice of the district deputy commissioner and that arrangements would be made to get the people photographed at the concerned ration shops. The staff at the centre has been changed, he said.

Many people had come from far off places to enlist their names in the local records. Many came from far off places by walk and waited for hours to get them photographed. Hundreds had applied for leave or forgone their day's earnings to get themselves registered in the ration cards.  Moreover, the efforts of revenue inspector Mahabal Rai, who remained at the Centre to coordinate the work has gone in vain.

Some say, the concerned should have saved the contents of the computer in separate CDs. Some of the government officials claimed they do not know about this development while others said they do not have clear instructions. Some organizations are said to be mustering support to hold a protest against the problems being created by the Nemmadi Centres.
