Sullia, Jul 4: A godown belonging to Welcome Mustafa, located near Mahisha Mardini temple in Ajjavar village in the taluk, caught fire in the afternoon of Friday July 3. As a result, goods worth over ten lac rupees were reported to have been destroyed.

In view of the lowly market price, 100 gunny bags of processed areca nut, 200 bags of unprocessed areca nut, copra, rubber scraps and other things had been stored in the godown. A fire had been started in a corner for drying the rubber sheets and copra. The fire spread to other portions of the godown, burning down everything that was stored in it.

The fire brigade personnel found it hard to douse the flames because of the enormity of the fire. Fire brigade from Puttur was also summoned thereafter. The local policemen have registered a case.
