Bengaluru, Sep 6: Rainfall continues to create problems in Maharashtra and Karnataka. Kodagu district and coastal Karnataka too experienced good rainfall. The meteorological department expects heavy rainfall to continue in select centres of the state in general and Kodagu in particular on Friday.

After 4,000 cusecs of water was released into Malaprabha river on Wednesday, a person, identified as Madarsab Janglisab Bava Makandar (55) from Jaffer Nagar was washed away in the forceful flow of water at Killa Toragal in Ramadurg taluk of Belagavi district.

The department has predicted heavy rains in Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts, and has issued orange alert. At the same time, Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, Udupi and Hassan districts too are expected to get good rains. The meteorological department said that rains may continue in the coast for three to four more days. At the same time, it said that rainfall in northern Karnataka henceforth is a remote possibility.

On account of heavy rains, rivers and streams in Kodagu are overflowing. Bhagamandala has virtually been submerged. During the 24-hour period ended 8.30 am on Thursday, Talakaveri - Bhagamandala region got a record 10 inches of rainfall. As water level in Cauvery river is likely to rise further, people of Kushalnagar and villages located on the route of the river have become worried. As inflow of water increased, 15,000 cusecs of water was released into the river from Harangi reservoir.

Because of heavy rains, water level in Kumaradhara river has swelled. On Thursday, the bathing bay at Subrahmanya went under water. The region received heavy rains on Wednesday night. The floods receded since Thursday afternoon.
