Puttur, Jul 6: "Gowda community is a formidable force in the district. The community is yet to realize the power of being united. As it is in hibernation, political benefits are being reaped by others," opined Lok Sabha member from Udupi and state BJP president D V Sadanand Gowda.

He was speaking after accepting the felicitation offered to him by Okkaliga Gowda Sangh of Puttur at Gowda Samudaya Bhavan in the town on Sunday July 5.

"The people of the community have to come together by understanding the power of unity. If they do not wake up to this need and fail to move forward in this direction, they may have to repent later. We should strengthen our organization and be ready for the show of strength," he exhorted.

In his address, Dharmapalanath Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mutt’s Mangalore branch noted that the organizations of the community need to lend power and freedom to the people who want to move ahead. Instead, the organizations are whiling away time, pulling the legs of each other, he commented. He opined that because of this enmity, the organizational activities of the community are suffering both at village and district levels.

Taluk panchayat president Savitri Shivaram, gold-medal winning KSPS commandant Ramadas Gowda S Udupi, MGM College principal Dr Venkatramana Gowda and MP Sadanand Gowda were felicitated by the Swamiji.

State Cashew Development Corporation president Kuntikan Lakshman Gowda, state Forest Development Corporation president S N Manmatha, office bearers of the Mutt and others were present. Sangh president Mohan Gowda Idyadka welcomed. Secretary Chidanand Bailadi proposed vote of thanks.
